Aveiro is the second most populous city in the Centro Region of Portugal, after Coimbra. This city was a great seaport with a history linked to its salt pans dating back prior to 959 AD. Aveiro is sometimes called “The Portuguese Venice”, because of its canals and boats that remind the Italian city. The town is basically a mixture of typical fishermen’s cottages and Art Nouveau townhouses with a few historic houses.
